While staying at Ekorian’s Mugie camp we like to encourage our guests to take part in as many activities as possible;but one we consider especially rewarding is a visit to the Mugie school.
The Mugie school is located on the ranch and has 175 children including 19 children with disabilities.
The headmaster of the school is an incredibly inspiring gentleman who specialised in special needs children, hence the section developed for these children, most of whom come from Maralal, the town north of Mugie. In reality these children are shunned by society and hidden. Now having started this special needs section, it has raised awareness and is educating the community that people with disabilities have a place in the community and should be treatedthe same as others. Due to their needs and having been excluded from society, Mugie has created a boarding house to accommodate these children.
The owners of Mugie Ranch are very supportive of this school and with their help and funding the education standard is among the highest in the country. It is not only the funding of the books and teachers that helps these children but also providing the children with three nutritious meals a day.
