Located in the heart of the Mugie Conservancy in Laikipia, Ekorian’s Mugie Camp offers a safari experience that goes beyond wildlife viewing—it invites you to travel with purpose. Our camp is built on the principles of sustainability, community empowerment, and environmental stewardship.

The name “Ekorian” is derived from the Turkana word for olive wood, a fitting symbol of our deep-rooted connection to Laikipia. Much of the camp is constructed using sustainably sourced olive wood, giving it a natural aesthetic that blends harmoniously with the surrounding landscape while minimizing environmental impact.

Sustainability at the Core

Our camp is designed with sustainability in mind, incorporating eco-conscious practices throughout:

Eco-Friendly Architecture

The use of olive wood in construction not only supports local economies but also reduces the camp’s carbon footprint, using natural materials adapted to the environment.

Solar Energy

Our camp runs entirely on solar power, providing clean, renewable energy for all operations—including lighting, charging, and heating.

Water Conservation

We recycle grey water and practice responsible water use, ensuring that this precious resource is used efficiently and safely returned to the ecosystem.

Green Amenities

From a chemical-free swimming pool to locally handmade toiletries and refillable water bottles, every element at Ekorian reflects our commitment to reducing waste and protecting the environment.

The Moyo Foundation: Conservation Meets Community

Working hand-in-hand with The Moyo Foundation, Ekorian’s Mugie Camp supports programmes that address the interconnected pillars of conservation, healthcare, and education:

Wildlife Conservation

Through initiatives to mitigate human-wildlife conflict and protect species like cheetahs, we are making a measurable difference in wildlife preservation.

Education Support

Moyo provides scholarships to children from rural communities and supports students with special needs at Mugie School.

Healthcare Access

Women’s Health Outreach Clinics deliver vital medical services and education to underserved communities.

Pack For A Purpose

We proudly participate in the global initiative Pack for a Purpose, encouraging travelers to bring much-needed supplies for local schools, clinics, and conservation projects. A few kilos in your suitcase can make a world of difference.

Helping the Bees:
"It’s All About You, Honey"

In partnership with The Moyo Foundation, we support sustainable beekeeping in pastoralist communities. Our innovative honey project prevents deforestation, empowers local families economically, and promotes bee health—a critical element in global biodiversity.

Saving the Cheetahs

With fewer than 7,000 cheetahs left in the wild, their survival is increasingly threatened by habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict. Through GPS tracking collars, funded by donors like you, we monitor cheetah movement to protect both livestock and these magnificent predators. Your support helps preserve one of Africa’s most iconic species.
